Andrea Nold

Andrea Jörg Nold (born July 28, 1920 in Felsberg ; † March 5, 2011 in Frauenfeld ; resident in Felsberg) was a Swiss artist and teacher .

life and work

Andrea Nold was the son of the couple who headed the “Bürgerheim” in Chur . After passing the Matura , he attended the School of Applied Arts Basel and Paris , the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere and the Ecole de Paris .

From 1946 to 1986, Nold taught drawing and art observation at the Frauenfeld Cantonal School . In 1960, together with Heinrich Ammann , Oscar Roth and Ernst Nägeli, he founded the "Kunstverein Frauenfeld" as the successor organization to the "Society for Music and Literature".

Nold's works reveal the affinity between painting and music in the variety of color melodies, rhythms and color tones. So let Ulrich Gasser of Nold images to three compositions inspired. One of them was performed on the occasion of the Swiss Tonkünstlerfest in 1981 in Lugano .

The tapestries (Gobelins) in close collaboration with his wife, Hedda, customized the small format due to its designs studies. Then the large-format tapestries were made by Barbara Gerber.

The first comprehensive retrospective (1947–1977) was shown in 1978 at the “Kunstverein Frauenfeld” and in 1988 a large exhibition followed at the Ittingen Charterhouse .

In addition to panel paintings, large-format tapestries, glass picture windows and finally “thick glass pictures” were created. In 1987 Nold received the recognition award from the city of Frauenfeld for the glass picture window "Tree of Life" in the Oberkirch cemetery hall.

Nold spent the evening of his life together with his wife in the Tertianum Friedau residential and care center. A large number of his works can be found in public and private ownership.
