Ulrich Genzler (born March 20, 1956 ) is a German publisher . He is on the management board of the Random House publishing group .

Life

After studying in Berlin, he did a traineeship at Carl Hanser Verlag in Munich. He then became a junior lecturer in the Bertelsmann publishing group . There he edited for the publishing brand Mosaik from 1985 and worked from 1987 as an editor, from 1991 as chief editor for Goldmann . In 1997/1998 he left Goldmann to take up the post of managing director with responsibility for Heyne and Diana at Heyne Verlag, which specializes in paperback books .

At Heyne, he systematically expanded the hardcover segment and, after the death of Rolf Heyne, integrated the publishing house into the Ullstein Heyne List publishing group. This merger was only temporary, as the cartel office objected when Random House announced a takeover . Only Heyne joined the Random House publishing group in 2003 after the book publishing group was re-divided into the individual publishers Ullstein / List and Heyne, which in turn belongs to the Bertelsmann group, so that the industry could speak of Genzler's return to Bertelsmann. As a member of the management board of Random House, he was initially responsible for the programs of the publishers Heyne, Diana, Ariston , Ludwig, Ansata, Lotos and Integral. The Blessing Verlag was added in mid-2005 . And at the end of 2010 the youth book program Heyne flies was founded , which was also added. In November of the same year, Genzler was named “Publisher of the Year” by the specialist magazine Buchmarkt . It was his great merit to have tied Stieg Larsson , Nicholas Sparks , John Grisham , Amelie Fried and Brigitte Riebe to his company, among others, it was said. On July 1, 2014, he was appointed to the management of the Random House publishing group . The publishers Südwest , Bassermann , Bassermann Inspiration and Irisiana were also handed over to him on November 1, 2014.
