Ulrich Gottlieb
Ulrich Gottlieb (* 1964 in Straubing ) is a pantomime , body theater performer and choreographer.
Life
Gottlieb began training as an actor and pantomime artist in 1985 with Werner Müller and Hiro Uchiyama (movement theater, Stanislawski and Gortowski method). In 1994 he met Marcel Marceau at the Bavarian Theater Academy. A strong interest in Asian movement arts led Ulrich Gottlieb to Asia . Many years of training in Taiji Quan under Master Lim Chee Choon in Penang / Malaysia had a strong impact on his artistic work. The handwriting of his work combines the elements of pantomime, street theater, improvisational theater and the art of movement Taiji Quan to create his own style of body theater.
Ulrich Gottlieb became internationally known with the character "Mr. Loop", with whom he appeared at international street theater festivals around the world. In addition to solo works, there was collaboration with well-known directors and conductors. In 1995 Ulrich Gottlieb took on the role of Marceau in the musical "Zazou" directed by Jérôme Savary at the Bavarian State Theater in Munich. He choreographed "Public Transport" at the Prinzregententheater in Munich. In 2001 he was a Performer Company member of Yvonne Pouget in her dance theater production "Io sogno, dunque non ci sono piu" at the Metropol Theater in Munich. This was followed by a collaboration with the violinist Monique Mead and the Munich Radio Orchestra and the Gürzenich Orchestra of the Cologne Philharmonic as well as with the conductor Gerd Albrecht in "Till Eulenspiegel" with the Munich Radio Orchestra. In doing so, he visually implemented excerpts from classical musical works as pantomimes. This also happens in the current (as of 2009) collaboration with the composer Matthias Linke. In 1994 he was given a teaching position in pantomime in the acting course at the Bavarian Theater Academy in Munich. An invitation to intercultural exchange brought him to the renowned Patravadi Theater in Bangkok in 2001 . An intensive collaboration with Patravadi Mejudhon began. Further guest lectureships followed at Srinakharinwirot University and Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok. In 2009 a collaboration with the ISTA (International School Theater Accociation) arose at the Theater arts Program Symposium in Bangkok. Another highlight in his work was the invitation to a pantomime part at the Royal Command Performance on the occasion of the 80th birthday of the King of Thailand.
Ulrich Gottlieb currently lives and works (as of 2009) in Munich, Vienna and Bangkok. His endeavors are the further development of pantomime and body theater as an independent, cross-cultural art form.
