Ulrich Hübner (lawyer)

Ulrich Hübner (born November 26, 1942 in Wohlau , Lower Silesia ; † August 3, 2008 in Cologne ) was a German legal scholar.

Life

Ulrich Hübner was born as the son of the later law professor Heinz Hübner . Hübner studied German and French law in Bonn, Saarbrücken, Paris and Cologne. After his first state examination (1967) and before his second state examination (1972), he received his doctorate in 1971 in Cologne under Ernst Klingmüller ; In 1976 he completed his habilitation with Bernhard Großfeld . After a university lecturer at the University of Muenster in 1978, he received a call to a professorship at the University of Göttingen. From 1979 to 1989 he held the chair for civil law, economic law and international economic relations at the Law Faculty of the University of Konstanz .

From 1983 to 2008, Hübner was professor for insurance law, civil law, commercial law, foreign and international private law at the University of Cologne . He was then director of the Institute for Insurance Law and the Institute for Insurance Science at Cologne University. In 1989 he initiated the German-French master’s degree in law (DFM) at the Universities of Cologne and Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne) . From 1999 to 2000 he was Dean of the Faculty of Law. In February 2008 he retired .

He was involved in various international interest groups, such as on the board of the German Association for Insurance Science. In 2001 he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Paris I.
