Ulrich II. (Weimar)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Count Ulrich II. ( Udalrich II. ) (* Around 1064; † May 13, 1112 ) from the House of Weimar-Orlamünde was Count of Weimar (1070–1112). Some sources also refer to him as the Margrave of Carniola - Istria .

Life

Ulrich was the son of Ulrich I and Sophia of Hungary . Before 1102 he married Adelheid von Thuringia († 1146), the daughter of Count Ludwig the Springer , but rejected her because of infidelity.

After the murder of Ekbert II (1090) Ulrich was apparently able to take over the rule in Weimar and probably also in Orlamünde .

In 1102 Ulrich donated his entire allodial property in Istria partly to some of his vassals, partly to the church of Aquileia.

Ulrich remained without male offspring. With his death in 1112, the older Weimar line died out in the male line. King Henry V then tried, but ultimately in vain, to collect all of his allodies .
