Ulrich Olaf Deimel

Ulrich Olaf Deimel (born December 29, 1916 in Olpe ; † April 14, 1984 in Hamburg ) was a German visual artist who mainly worked in Hamburg.

Most of Deimel's works were created between 1948 and 1984 in Hamburg in connection with public funding for art - art in buildings . Deimel therefore shaped the cityscape of Hamburg as it developed in the post-war years. "Some of his works for the building department are among the few very modern, non-representational-abstract works of the fifties in the architectural context." (BBSR-Online-Publication No. 12/2014, p. 280)

In this context more than 150 wall designs or sculptures for banks, insurance companies, shipyards and on ships were created. He used different techniques such as sgraffito , ceramics, painting, mosaic , glass, concrete and metal. His works a.o. a. in the Deichtorhallen (1950), in the employment office Admiralitätsstrasse (1952), in the youth hostel at Stintfang (1953), in the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg (1955), Hamburg Airport (1961), in the management academy in Blankenese (1964), Dresdner Bank on Jungfernstieg ( 1964), the Hamburg State Opera (1968), on the Bundesbahn ferry Germany (1971), in the development area Billstedt-Horn (1980).
