Ulrich Podewils

Ulrich Podewils (born September 13, 1947 in Hildesheim ) is a retired German lawyer and university manager.

Life

After serving at the Federal Border Police , he studied law in Göttingen , Geneva and Heidelberg from 1968 to 1972 . During his legal clerkship, he worked at the law faculty of Heidelberg University and attended the administrative college in Speyer.

After the second state examination, he started as a consultant at the Chancellor of the University of Mannheim in the summer of 1975 , where he became head of the Student Affairs Department at the end of 1975. In 1978 he moved to the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science and Art in Stuttgart, first as a consultant for professors at the state's technical colleges, then as a consultant for international and supra-regional affairs. From autumn 1983 he headed the public relations department at the Federal Minister of Education and Science (BMBW) in Bonn. In 1986/87 he was the BMBW representative for Villa Vigoni on Lake Como and at the same time acting general secretary of the sponsoring association of Villa Vigoni. He then headed the basic department for the university sector at the BMBW. At the end of 1988 he was elected Chancellor of the Technical University of Berlin for ten years .

From 1999 to 2003, he headed the Berlin artist program of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and its capital city office in Berlin . He then went to New Delhi for the DAAD, where he was the director of the liaison office, in addition to India, responsible for Bangladesh , Nepal and Sri Lanka . He then headed the “India-EU Study Centers Project” with nine Indian and six European universities until the beginning of 2012; the project was funded by the Indian government and the European Union. From 2008 to mid-2016, he also headed the liaison office of the Free University of Berlin in New Delhi.

Between 1990 and 2003 he was a member of the board of trustees of Villa Vigoni and is still a member of its sponsoring association.

Ulrich Podewils is married to a Canadian and has one daughter.
