Ulrich Schwarz (* 1422 in Augsburg ; † April 14, 1478 ibid) was councilor and city caretaker in Augsburg.

Life

Schwarz came from a carpenter family who immigrated to Augsburg from Rettenbergen around 1400 . From 1459 he was councilor of the carpenter's guild and in 1467 joined the leadership circle of the Thirteen, the council committees. In 1469 he was first elected town ranger . Black was re-elected for the next seven years. He achieved success in Augsburg politics by overcoming economic problems in the middle of the 15th century. He ensured greater equality between the guilds in the council. A feud with other strong political figures in Augsburg finally meant the end of his term of office.

Around 1475, Schwarz ensured that Johann Vittel was sent to the imperial court as a salaried envoy, where he was critical of the political situation in Augsburg. Schwarz accused him of breaking the oath. Johann and his brother Leonhard Vittel died on April 19, 1477 on the scaffold . This execution led to the fall of Ulrich Schwarz and to the fact that he was executed on the gallows on April 14, 1478 .
