Rettenbergen is a village and district of the city of Gersthofen in the Swabian district of Augsburg and in the Holzwinkel of the Augsburg Nature Park in Bavaria , Germany . The district also includes the hamlet of Peterhof and the former local recreation area Weidenlohe, which has been a separate district of Rettenbergen since 2010.

history

Rettenbergen was probably created in the 11th century as a Rodeort in the Hirblinger Urmark . Rutinbergen is mentioned for the first time in the 12th century . The popular excursion destination Peterhof , documented as St. Peter since 1488, is located in the municipality . Although Rettenbergen has had its own village church of St. Wolfgang since 1575, the place, like Edenbergen, has always belonged to the parish of Batzenhofen. The 450-strong village is located directly on the forest, its area covers 844.68 hectares and is therefore the largest district of the city of Gersthofen.

Rettenbergen was an independent municipality and was incorporated into the city of Gersthofen on January 1, 1978 as part of the regional reform in Bavaria . At Peterhof there are remains of a Celtic square hill .

The Catholic branch church St. Wolfgang in Rettenbergen with the hamlet Peterhof and the district Weidenlohe belongs to the parish of Sankt Martin in Batzenhofen , which also includes Edenbergen with Gailenbach .

coat of arms

Rettenbergen coat of arms
Blazon : "On a black field there isa five-pointed golden crown with five red rubiesover three golden stones ."
Justification of the coat of arms: The colors black and gold come from the Hirblingen coat of arms, because Rettenbergen belonged to the Urmark Hirblingen and was cleared from there around the 11th century. In the course of time the rulership and property relationships were severely fragmented. The main part was held by the canonical monastery of St. Stephan in Augsburg until 1803. This can be seen in the golden martyr's crown and the three golden stones as attributes of Saint Stephen.

Clubs and other groups
