Ulrich "Uli" van den Berg (born October 29, 1949 , † December 2, 2016 in Bonn ) was a German football player .
Career
Van den Berg played from 1972 for four seasons with FC Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga . During his time at FC Schalke 04, he played 60 Bundesliga games in which he scored a total of four goals, six games in the DFB Cup with three goals and three European Cup games. After he quickly dropped out under coach Ivica Horvat from the 1972/73 season onwards to become a regular at the then runner-up - in a team that had been depleted by the Bundesliga scandal - he only played under his successors Max Merkel and Friedel Rausch in 1975/76 more four times in the Bundesliga.
After the 1975/76 season he moved to the second division promoted Bonner SC . At the end of the 1976/77 season, the BSC had just managed to stay in the league as 16th. The 27-year-old van den Berg had contributed eight goals in 31 games. But since the Bonn team paid gross for net, their license was withdrawn as the first professional club in Germany. Many players then left the sports park. Uli van den Berg stayed until the end of his career in 1988, with the exception of one season that he spent at FV Bad Honnef . A return to the 2nd Bundesliga was no longer successful. As a libero , van den Berg was the record scorer of Bonner SC with 75 goals in 276 games, many of them with a header. The club made him an honorary captain.
After his playing career, van den Berg, known for his reserved manner, worked for a Bonn car dealership and was active in sports at the Blau-Gold tennis club and on the golf course.
He died a few weeks after his 67th birthday.
