Umaria is a city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh . The city is located in the eastern part of the state and near the geographic center of India.

The city is the administrative seat of the Umaria district of the same name . The city is divided into 15 wards . On the cut-off date of the 2011 census, it had 33,114 inhabitants, of which 17,509 were men and 15,605 women. Hindus make up the majority of the city's population with a share of over 91%. The literacy rate in 2011 was 84.70%, well above the national average.

Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes make up 12.82 percent and 18.57 percent of the total population of Umaria, respectively .
