Umberto Primo Conti (born October 16, 1900 in Florence, † November 13, 1988 in Fiesole ) was an Italian painter and writer of Futurism and Novecento .

Life

At the age of 10, Conti attended the drawing school Eugenio Chiostri in Florence and met Alberto Viviani in 1911 , who, as a friend of Marinetti , brought him into contact with Soffici , Palazzeschi and Papini in 1913 , whom he met at an exhibition in the artist newspaper Lacerba . Artistically, Conti leaned on Boccioni in his early days and was able to make contact with the Florentine group of futurists that rallied around the newspaper L'Italia Letteraria . His first significant literary work is the novel Imbottigliature , which he published in 1917/1918. In 1918 Settimelli hired him to manage the magazine L'Italia Futurista . He also publishes in Herwarth Walden's magazine Der Sturm and in 1919 he publishes his own magazine, Il Centone . The latter, however, is not well received by Marinetti, as it can no longer be described as futuristic. In fact, at this time Conti began to break away from Futurism and, like Carlo Carrà and Giorgio de Chirico, deal with the Pittura metafisica in order to later become involved in the Novecento art movement.

In 1943 the former Vienna Secession showed a cross-section of his work to date in an exhibition.
