Umeå Södra FF was founded in 1982 as a merger of the women's football departments of Röbäcks IF and Tegs SK . Over the years, the club played its way into the second division. At the turn of the millennium, the team established itself in the front division of Division 1. As runner-up in the northern season, they missed promotion to Damallsvenskan in 2003 behind Själevads IK and in the following year behind AIK , but had to show a clear gap. After another runner-up with nine points behind AIK at the end of the 2006 season, the club rose to the first division after the following season when Piteå IF was six points away.
