history

Origins

On November 17, 1989, the UnAufgeballer was launched as "Noch namlos". It should be the press organ of an independent student council, which should replace the FDJ as a lobby group. In order to print in the former GDR and to get copy paper for the printers at the HU, the editorial team had to organize a state license. That is why the first edition was printed in West Berlin at the TU Berlin and smuggled to the east. The name "UnAufgeruf" was created before the second edition was published. At that time, the Humboldt University was protected by a high fence, and the following inscription could be read on signs at the entrance: “Please show your Humboldt University IDs without being asked!” This is how the name of the new newspaper came about: Unrequested, or UnAuf for short. Only after the fourth edition was there an official printing permit: (36a) 5077 B from the Berlin magistrate . It was the key to our own paper quota. To this day, the license hangs in the editorial offices. One year after the first edition was published, the first freely elected HU rector Heinrich Fink assigned the Unrequested to a small room in the main building.

Split from the student body

Discussions about gender-neutral language , funding gaps, the filling of editorial posts and editorial independence led to a break between the student representatives and the newspaper, which had been run as a student initiative for many years and financed with student funds. In autumn 2008 - on the 19th anniversary of the first edition - the student parliament decided not to make any more funds available to the unsolicited.

On September 26th, 2009, the voluntary “Freundeskreis der UnAuffrage e. V. ”was founded by former and active editors who has published the newspaper ever since. The association has set itself a statute that guarantees independence in terms of content.

present

250 issues have appeared since 1989, all of which can be viewed in the online archive. In the fall of 2017, the editorial team of the Unaufrebel landed a scoop by uncovering non- transparent processes in the student parliament of the HU with the research in the context of the article As long as no one looks and ensured a nationwide discourse. The article was printed in the Tagesspiegel and the problem was discussed in the press across Germany.
