Under the Pink is Tori Amos' second album . It was released in 1994 by Atlantic Records (inside the USA) and WEA International (outside the USA).

History of origin

Under the Pink is one of the most successful albums by Tori Amos, which she co-produced with Eric Rosse in New Mexico . For the first time, Tori Amos can be heard here with her later trademark, the Bösendorfer grand piano . All of the following albums and live concerts were played with the Bösendorfer.

Under the Pink should be the last album for which the American singer was not solely responsible for the production. There were violent disputes over the final version of the album with Atlantic Records. Tori Amos threatened the destruction of the master tapes and was actually able to assert himself on some points. On the other hand, she did not manage to get her favorite title "Honey" on Under the Pink . "Honey" was eventually released as a B-side .

Music genre

Contained Little Earthquakes rather simple keyboard Strings, has now emphasis on real strings - Arrangements set. John Philip Shenal was responsible for this. Unmistakably there are also many weird tones that are new to Tori Amos (e.g. “God” or “The Waitress”) on Under the Pink . Here the singer is already saying goodbye to the gentle image of a delicate singer-songwriter . This should only benefit their incipient cult status.

Single releases

The singles are "Cornflake Girl", "Pretty Good Year", "Past the Mission" and "God". "Cornflake Girl" is one of the most famous Tori Amos pieces. She is often mistakenly referred to in the press as the "Cornflake Girl" girl, although the song says: "Never was a cornflake girl ...". With "Pretty Good Year" she set the then current story of suffering of one of her fans to music. On "Past the Mission" Tori Amos worked with Trent Reznor , with whom she was also said to have an affair. With "God" a Tori Amos single with club remixes by Carl Craig and CJ Bolland was released for the first time.
