Boys for Pele is the third album by Tori Amos . It was released in 1996 as a follow-up album to Under the Pink on Atlantic Records (inside the USA) and WEA International (outside the USA). With Pele , the Hawaiian volcano goddess is meant.

Tori Amos presents an album on which, in addition to the obligatory Bösendorfer grand piano, she also plays the harpsichord ( Blood Roses , Professional Widow , Caught A Lite Sneeze , Talula ), harmonium ( Hey Jupiter , Muhammad My Friend ) and clavichord ( Little Amsterdam ). The album is about the fire she stole from various men in her life and the way to spark her own passion. It is laid out as a continuous story that shows a development like a novella. It's about overwhelming desires and needs as well as love. For Tori Amos, recognizing one's own needs plays an important role in becoming a woman. From their point of view, the Virgin Mary can not be a role model for a woman.

The first single, Caught a Lite Sneeze , was released free of charge on the Internet at the same time and was the first experiment of its kind. Nevertheless, this single received little attention. The album did not go well in the beginning and in the USA it attracted attention less through her music than through a picture in which she breasts a piglet. In lending libraries, this picture was removed from the booklet and a man even sued the record company (the picture is said to have caused a car accident!).
The Professional Widow techno remix of Armand van Helden was a worldwide hit, reaching number-one rankings in various dance charts. Suddenly interest in the album increased again and Atlantic Records released various variations of Boys for Pele . There were versions with the Professional Widow (remix) and In the Springtime of His Voodoo (remix). In addition, the original was Talula with Talula exchanged (The Tornado Mix). Finally the original version was available again and Boys for Pele was able to achieve a platinum award in the USA.

After Tori Amos broke up with longtime partner Eric Rosse (co-producer of Little Earthquakes and Under the Pink ), she appeared as the sole producer of her albums from then on. She immediately savored the new freedom to bring out this pop-incompatible album. In the favor of die-hard Tori Amos fans, this album is often at the top and cannot be regarded as an easy entry into the world of Tori Amos. Her future husband Mark Hawley, who has been her permanent sound engineer since Boys for Pele , is also represented here for the first time .
