The casualty hospital Casa Austria ( Romanian Spitalul Clinic Județean de Urgență Casa Austria ) is an accident hospital in Timișoara Romania , which was built on May 16, 2003 at the instigation of the Viennese trauma surgeon Johannes Poigenfürst according to the most modern European standards .
history
Johannes Poigenfürst had the idea of building a modern accident hospital in Timișoara according to the latest EU standards during the days of the Romanian Revolution of 1989 . At the end of December 1989, he arrived in Timișoara with an aid transport with doctors , medicines and medical-technical equipment .
On December 26, 76 people with serious gunshot wounds were admitted to the orthopedic clinic on Bulevardul Mihai Viteazul in Timișoara . The Romanian and Austrian doctors operated together for a few days; the difficult cases were brought to Vienna, where the technical equipment and the rehabilitation possibilities were better. Returning to Vienna, Johannes Poigenfürst started a large-scale campaign to collect donations for the construction of an accident clinic in Timișoara according to the latest EU standards. For this purpose he founded the Casa Austria foundation and brought in 2.54 million euros through successful fund raising . Caritas' Osthilfe contributed as much again. On May 16, 2003 the casualty hospital Casa Austria was officially opened.
