Casa Austria casualty hospital, Timișoara 2010

The casualty hospital Casa Austria ( Romanian Spitalul Clinic Județean de Urgență Casa Austria ) is an accident hospital in Timișoara Romania , which was built on May 16, 2003 at the instigation of the Viennese trauma surgeon Johannes Poigenfürst according to the most modern European standards .

history

Johannes Poigenfürst had the idea of building a modern accident hospital in Timișoara according to the latest EU standards during the days of the Romanian Revolution of 1989 . At the end of December 1989, he arrived in Timișoara with an aid transport with doctors , medicines and medical-technical equipment .

On December 26, 76 people with serious gunshot wounds were admitted to the orthopedic clinic on Bulevardul Mihai Viteazul in Timișoara . The Romanian and Austrian doctors operated together for a few days; the difficult cases were brought to Vienna, where the technical equipment and the rehabilitation possibilities were better. Returning to Vienna, Johannes Poigenfürst started a large-scale campaign to collect donations for the construction of an accident clinic in Timișoara according to the latest EU standards. For this purpose he founded the Casa Austria foundation and brought in 2.54 million euros through successful fund raising . Caritas' Osthilfe contributed as much again. On May 16, 2003 the casualty hospital Casa Austria was officially opened.

description

The casualty clinic Casa Austria has 60 beds and treats 1,500 inpatients annually. The running costs are borne by the Romanian health insurance company , the costs for the medicinal substances are paid via a donation account managed by Caritas Timișoara . In the meantime, Casa Austria in Timișoara is not only a state-of-the-art hospital, but also a training location and training center for doctors and nursing staff . Casa Austria brought a completely new treatment concept to Romania, which Poigenfürst had designed as head of the Böhler Accident Hospital in Vienna . The core principle is not the seriously injured is taken to the doctor in the individual departments, but locally supervised a priori a multidisciplinary team of experts.

The Casa Austria hospital has three departments:

  • a department for plastic and reconstructive surgery
  • a department for extensive burns
  • a department of polytraumatology , the only one of its kind in Romania.
