The Hospital for Infectious Diseases and Pneumology Dr. Victor Babeș ( Romanian Spitalul Clinic de Boli Infecțioase și Pneumofiziologie Dr. Victor Babeș ) was founded in 1920 in the Timişoara hunting forest (Romanian: Pădurea Verde Timișoara ) as the only infection hospital in western Romania .

history

In 1920, three pavilions of the hospital for lung and infectious diseases with 130 beds were built in the Jagdwald . The physician Alfred Metz achieved particular merits in the organization and management of the functional laboratory activities and the hematology of the infection hospital between 1930 and 1939.

From 1949 to 1969, Hans Röhrich was clinical director at the hospital for infectious diseases and pulmonology Dr. Victor Babes , where he set up the first department for thoracic and pulmonary surgery in Timisoara. In 1958 the first lung segment resection took place. From 1961 onwards, thoracic surgery achieved success in the areas of thoracic plastic , pneumothorax , mediastinum , rib resection and pericardium . Hans Röhrich's successor was Virgil Ene, who headed the clinic from 1970.

Since 1952 the hospital has been named after the Romanian pathologist Victor Babes . The hospital has a department of pulmonology with 75 beds, including 60 for tuberculosis , and a department for infectious diseases with 60 beds, including four for AIDS -Patients. The hospital also has a smoking cessation department and a sleep laboratory .

Infectious Disease and Pneumology Hospital Dr. Victor Babes in Timisoara is the only one of its kind in western Romania. It cares for patients from the Timiș District and from the neighboring Arad , Hunedoara and Caraș-Severin districts .
