Hans Röhrich

Hans Röhrich or Johann Röhrich (born October 5, 1899 in Nagyszentmiklós ( German  Großsanktnikolaus ), Kingdom of Hungary , Austria-Hungary ; † April 21, 1988 in Bad Tölz ) was chief physician and surgeon at the Ophthalmology Clinic (1931-1948) and on Infectious Disease and Pneumology Hospital Dr. Victor Babeș (1949–1969) in Timișoara , Romania . After the establishment of theMedical and Pharmaceutical University of Victor Babes , he worked as a university lecturer for pulmonary thoracic surgery.

Education

Hans Röhrich attended the community school in his hometown Nagyszentmiklós from 1909 to 1912 and then graduated from the Piarist high school in Temesvár , where he graduated from high school in 1917. After serving at the front (1917–1918) in South Tyrol , he began studying medicine in Germany in 1919 at the universities of Tübingen , Freiburg im Breisgau , Munich , the Berlin Charité , in Würzburg and Heidelberg . In 1926 he received his doctorate under Professor Romberg in Munich. From 1926 to 1930 Röhrich worked as an assistant doctor in Heidelberg, where he trained as a surgeon.

Medical career

After studying medicine, Hans Röhrich took over the management of the Barmherzigenspital in Timișoara in 1931 and subjected the hospital to medical changes. He began the renovation of the hospital according to modern medical criteria and its expansion into a surgical clinic. The hospital was equipped with 55 beds. The first surgical - urological department was set up in Timișoara, the first intrathoracic interventions were carried out and the first lung removal in Romania . Until 1948, Dr. Röhrich achieved considerable success in the areas of kidney , bladder , prostate , gallbladder , bowel and thoracic surgery .

From 1941 to 1943 he was a doctor in the Romanian Army at the front.

After the Barmherzigenspital was nationalized in 1948, Hans Röhrich began a new career in 1949 at the Hospital for Infectious Diseases and Pneumology Dr. Victor Babeș in the Timișoara Hunting Forest (Romanian: Pădurea Verde ). Here he built up thoracic surgery . After founding the medical faculty, Hans Röhrich worked as a lecturer in pulmonary thoracic surgery from 1949 to 1969. During this time he founded the first lung surgery department in Timișoara. In 1969 he retired. In 1972 he moved to Germany and settled in Bad Tölz. For a few years he worked at the Boruth private clinic in Munich.

In his honor, a memorial plaque was ceremoniously unveiled in September 2011 at the house where he was born in Sânnicolau Mare.
