União de Freguesias the Alheira e Igreja Nova , short Alheira e Igreja Nova is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the district of Barcelos in the north of Portugal .

The municipality has 1,456 inhabitants on an area of ​​10.17 km² (as of 2011 figures).

The municipality was created in the course of the regional reform in Portugal on September 29, 2013 by merging the two previous municipalities Alheira and Igreja Nova . Alheira became the seat of the municipality.
