União das Freguesias de Tavira (Santa Maria e Santiago) , in short Tavira (Santa Maria e Santiago) or Freguesia de Tavira , is a municipality ( Freguesia ) in the district ( Concelho ) of Tavira in the Algarve , in southern Portugal .
It forms the actual inner city municipality of Tavira.
15,133 inhabitants live in the municipality on an area of 147.99 km² (figures from 2011).
The municipality was created in the course of the regional reform in Portugal on September 29, 2013 by merging the municipalities of Santa Maria and Santiago .
