The Uni-Center is the center of Bochum-Hustadt in the Querenburg district . It was created at the same time as the neighboring Ruhr University Bochum as its urban core. It was completed in 1973. The Uni-Center has more than 2,000 apartments, around 80% of which are student apartments, 3,500 m² of classrooms, more than 26,000 m² of commercial space, an indoor swimming pool and a church.

Typical of the time, the large housing estate , which does not go back to any old settlement core, was laid out as a pure pedestrian zone on several levels. Mobility is ensured by a bus and a light rail station. The car park belonging to the complex with its 600 parking spaces is primarily used by the residents of the surrounding area who use the shopping and service center in the district.

The center of the Uni-Center was built by Neue Heimat and a company affiliated with it. The construction was considered Europe's largest construction site at the time of construction. It was extensively redesigned and renovated in the mid-1990s. Large parts of the center are classified as urgently in need of renovation.

Ownership and use

The main owner is the real estate company Grand City Property (GCP). GCP took over the Uni-Center on January 1, 2016 from Dakota Investment SA, based in Luxembourg. The property is managed by the Irish Comer Immobilienmanagement GmbH & Co. KG .

The student dormitory adjoining to the west with 563 places went to the Akafö student union in 1976 after the university building and financing company was dissolved .

The church forum, built jointly by the Catholic and Protestant churches, was sold to the Universitätsforum Bochum GbR in 2011 . Today, as a tenant, the Ruhr-Universität operates the Uniforum with classrooms and an international guest house with 55 seats for foreign guest researchers, doctoral students and scholarship holders. The diocese of Essen offers 9 student apartments on one floor. The Catholic Augustinus Church in the lower part of the forum was preserved as a diocese church and is used and operated by the Catholic university chaplaincy "CampusSegen". The Evangelical University Community (ESG) is also represented in some rooms.
