history
FC Union Mühlhausen was created in 1972 from a merger of the company sports associations (BSG) Post Mühlhausen and Motor Mühlhausen to form BSG Union Mühlhausen. Both BSG and ASG Vorwärts Mühlhausen played in the Erfurt district league at different times .
The Thuringians succeeded in the intended promotion to higher-class football in the 1988/89 season, in which Mühlhausen qualified for the GDR league before Funkwerk Kölleda . As the bottom of the table, Mühlhausen had to relegate again after one season and was incorporated into the newly founded Thuringia regional league in the 1990/91 season . In the same year it was renamed SV Union Mühlhausen. In terms of sport, the club had to leave the Thuringia regional league again after just one season.
In 1994 there was another name change to SV 1899 Mühlhausen . This was a renaming to the 1913, from a merger between Germania Mühlhausen and Teutonia Mühlhausen, created SpVgg 1899 Mühlhausen. FC Germania Mühlhausen was a founding member of the DFB and, alongside SC Erfurt, was one of the oldest football clubs in Thuringia in 1895 . However, due to further renaming until 1945, the direct line of tradition is unclear.
In 1997, the football department spun off from the entire club under the name FC Union Mühlhausen. On a sporting level, Union Mühlhausen commuted between national league and class. After relegation in the 2007/08 season, the team played in the western season of the national class in the 2008/09 season. After being promoted there in the 2009/10 season, FC Union Mühlhausen played in the Thuringia League until the 2015/16 relegation season. The current league is the regional class Thuringia North.
