The Union of International Mountain Leader Associations ( UIMLA ; German Association of International Mountain Guide Associations ) was founded in November 2004. The UIMLA has been a UIAA member since 2019 .
UIMLA's head office is at:
UIMLA, Maison des Parcs et de la Montagne, 256, Rue de la République F-73000 Chambéry , France .
At the meeting it was decided that all IML members should receive the same carnet and badge, which gives an internationally recognized identity. It also paves the way for other countries around the world to join the UIMLA, which sets a world standard for mountain guides .
aims
- The main goals of the UIMLA are
- Promotion of the profession of International Mountain Guide (IML) and strengthening of his identity outside Europe;
- Developing relationships between professionals of different nationalities and participating in the advancement of IML training and qualifications;
- Representation of the profession at European and international level.
The Union of International Mountain Leader Associations (UIMLA) and the International Association of Mountain Guide Associations (IVBV) are the only internationally recognized qualifications for the leading groups in the mountains. Holders of these awards can also work in the British mountains.
The International Mountain Leader Award is the professional qualification for people who want to lead trekking groups in all mountain areas except on glaciers and who require the techniques or equipment of alpinism. The International Mountain Leader (IML) can also operate on simple, snow-covered terrain, provided that it is gentle and Nordic in the "middle" mountains. After successfully completing the entire training and assessment program and by belonging to their recognized national body, the person receives the full IML Award, a professional certificate (Carnet) and an internationally recognized badge , making them comparable to other IMLs worldwide.
