Building of the United AG cigarette machine factory

The United AG Zigarettenmaschinenfabrik was a company that manufactured cigarette machines in Dresden . Founded as United Cigarette Machine Comp. the company aimed at the rapidly growing volume of cigarette production in Dresden, which made the city one of the largest cigarette producers in the then German Empire before the First World War. After 1918 the company was renamed United AG Zigarettenmaschinenfabrik and went bankrupt in the course of the Great Depression in 1929, also due to the increasing monopoly tendencies in the 1920s.

The factory building erected in 1910 for the United AG cigarette machine factory has meanwhile become a listed building in Dresden-Striesen . From a purely architectural point of view, the building at Junghansstrasse 5 was designed by the draftsmen as a U-shaped building. Using this floor plan with accentuated central and corner projections , they carried out the exterior and interior appearance of the building in mixed forms of strict Art Nouveau on the one hand and historicism on the other. There is an elaborately designed staircase at the entrance to Glashütter Straße.

After the bankruptcy of United AG , the house was taken over in 1932 by the W. Lande cigarette factory as the main production facility , which in this way relocated its headquarters within Striesen from Laubestrasse 24 to this place.

Only slightly damaged during the air raids on Dresden in 1945, the building now belongs to f6 Cigarettenfabrik Dresden GmbH and is still part of the cigarette production in Dresden.
