The United Nations Transition Mission in Haiti ( UNTMIH ; German: the United Nations Transition Mission in Haiti ) was a UN peacekeeping mission . It was based on UN resolution 1123 of July 30, 1997 and replaced the United Nations Support Mission in Haiti (UNSMIH).

The mission took place from August to November 1997 and was used to train the Haiti Police Department under UNSMIH . This was followed by further training by the United Nations Civil Police Mission in Haiti (MIPONUH).

At headquarters in UNTMIH in Port-au-Prince were Enrique ter Horst of Venezuela in his capacity as Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of Mission for the leadership of the armed forces Robin Gagnon of Canada and for the police official component Colonel Jean-Claude Laparra from France to the side . The mission was staffed by 250 police officers from Argentina , Benin , Canada, France, India , Mali , Niger , Senegal , Togo , Tunisia and the USA, as well as 50 military personnel from Canada and Pakistan .
