Filial church St. Michael in Ummendorf

The St. Michael branch church is the village church in the village of Ummendorf in the municipality of Pürgen , Landsberg am Lech district .

The core of today's church building dates back to the 14th century, a St. Michael's Chapel, consecrated to the national saint of the Franks, probably already existed at the time of the Franconian mission in the 8th century. During soil investigations, the remains of a number of previous buildings were uncovered.

The church, like the neighboring church in Pürgen, one with round Friesen equipped saddle tower on the north side of a semicircular choir . The interior was refurbished in the early 17th century. In the Thirty Years' War , the Swedes who passed through robbed the church in 1632/33. The building was partially destroyed and the two church orderlies were killed. The Landsberg dean found only a few vestments, a pewter chalice and two late Gothic brass candlesticks. In 1698, the building finally collapsed in part and had to be rebuilt.

At the entrance on the south side of the nave there is a strong plank door with a wooden bolt basket, for which there is a key weighing 650 grams. A dainty ridge vault in a star configuration arches over the chancel. The altars date from the second half of the 18th century, the pulpit and choir stalls from around 1700. In the interior there is a crucifix, a statue of St. Michael and other figures from the Landsberg sculptor's workshop of father and son Luidl . The brightly ringing church bell dates from 1454 and escaped confiscation during the two world wars.

In more recent times the church was renovated in 1960/62 and 1979.

In addition to St. Michael, St. Francis Xaverius and St. Sebastian are venerated in the church. There is also an idiosyncratic custom, reported by Freiherr von Leoprechting , the former squire of Pöring : On Ascension Day, the figure of the risen was placed on a table and a light swung from the “ Heiliggeistloch ” on a rope and sweets and sweets for the youth Wreaths of flowers thrown.
