The United Party (UP) ( German United Party ) was a Christian Democratic party in Gambia .
history
In 1952 the Christian Pierre Sarr N'Jie , from the Fulbe people , founded the United Party (UP) and was its chairman. The UP had its supporters in the Wolof and Fulbe with Roman Catholic faith. N'Jie campaigned for a federation with Senegal .
The UP lost in the 1960 general election and 1962 general election, and N'Jie became opposition leader in parliament.
When N'Jie withdrew from politics, the UP became less important.
