The University Library of the Helmut Schmidt University is the scientific library of the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg . The university library was founded together with the institution of the university , which at that time was still known as the "Hochschule der Bundeswehr Hamburg". The textbook collections in the faculty libraries comprise 46,000 volumes. The majority of the holdings are freely accessible in the main library and the faculty libraries. The library's acquisition profile is geared towards the subjects and content taught at the Helmut Schmidt University. These are in particular: mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, economics, law, pedagogy, psychology, history, political science, theology (focus: ethics, peace research), military and defense policy (collective focus: navy, sea war, military and defense policy of Scandinavia and the Baltic Sea region). The library is also responsible for compiling the university bibliography and a bibliography for its namesake Helmut Schmidt.
