The University Library of the Medical University of Vienna is a library of the Medical University of Vienna .

history

In the course of the reorganization of the state universities in Austria by the University Act 2002 , medical universities in Graz , Innsbruck and Vienna were re- established on January 1, 2004 . The Austrian Central Library for Medicine , which had been independent until then , became a university library and an organizational unit of the Medical University of Vienna .

  • The university library of the Medical University of Vienna is the largest medical library in Austria with a stock of approx. 570,000 monographs and journal volumes. The library is divided into the main library in the General Hospital of the City of Vienna (university clinics ) as well as two branch libraries (dentistry, history of medicine) and 37 institute and clinic lists.
  • Approximately 7,000 monographs are acquired annually.
  • The library subscribes to around 1,800 print journals; in addition, consortium or individual licenses have been concluded for around 2,700 electronic journals .
  • Licenses include a. the literature databases MEDLINE , BIOSIS, CINAHL, EMBASE, INSPEC, PASCAL Biomed, PsycINFO, PsyndexPlus and ISI Web of Science .

Projects and Cooperations

  • The University Library of the Medical University of Vienna is a member of the Austrian Library Network and, in addition to the library network catalog, also participates in the Austrian dissertation database and the eDOC project.
  • The university library is a cooperation partner of the EZB ( Electronic Journals Library) and - besides the Austrian Central Library for Physics - the only Austrian delivery library at subito , the document delivery service of scientific libraries.
  • The university library is one of 13 founding members of the “E-Media Austria” cooperation, which aims to optimize the licensing of electronic media via consortia at Austrian academic libraries.
  • The university library is integrated into MedCurrWien with two courses in the subject area of ​​science and medicine.
  • The head of the university library is a member of the working group of library directors in Austria , which aims to intensify the cooperation between university libraries at the 21 Austrian state universities.
