The University of Khartoum ( Arabic جامعة الخرطوم, DMG Ǧāmiʿat al-Ḫarṭūm ) in Khartoum in Sudan is the most important university in the country. It is located east of the business center on the banks of the Blue Nile .
history
1902 during the British colonial era , the Gordon Memorial College established the first only a primary school was. After a few additions to the subject, Sudan's first medical training center was opened in 1924. In 1936 a legal department was established, from 1947 the college was attached to the University of London .
With the independence of the country in 1956, the previous college was given university status.
structure
Khartoum University has 16,800 undergraduate students in 23 different faculties, schools and research institutions. Around 3,500 new students are accepted every year, 55% of them are women.
In addition, 6,000 “ graduate students ” (master's and doctoral students ) are enrolled. 850 lecturers and professors, 20 research colleagues and 500 teaching assistants are employed at the university.
The University also has the Mycetoma Research Center.
