The Unknown Mortal Orchestra is an American-New Zealand band from Portland . She plays a mixture of funk , groove and psychedelic rock .
history
Ruban Nielson founded the band The Mint Chicks in New Zealand in 2001 with his brother Kody . The band released several EPs and three LPs until they broke up in 2010. In 2007 the brothers relocated to Portland, Oregon on the US West Coast .
In spring 2010, a track called Ffunny Ffrends was released on Bandcamp , without further information. The author was Ruban Nielson and the response to the track was enormous. As the author of the piece, he leads a mysterious Unknown Mortal Orchestra (Eng. "Orchestra of an Unknown Mortal").
After the web success of Ffunny Ffrends , Nielson tinkered with an album. This was published in 2011 and was entitled Unknown Mortal Orchestra . Then Nielson went on tour with a bassist and a drummer for 18 months. Nielson retired again to his basement and worked on the second album II . This was released in early 2013. This album also featured drummer Jacob Portrait and bassist Greg Rogove.
The Unknown Mortal Orchestra released their third album entitled Multi-Love in 2015 and was on tour in Germany in May 2015.
