The Lower Einersberger Teich in the Harz Mountains is a reservoir near Clausthal-Zellerfeld in the Goslar district in Lower Saxony . It is one of the Upper Harz ponds that were created for Montanz purposes.
The 0.8 ha large and listed lake is about 1 km west of the Zellerfeld district . The pond was probably created around 1620. It is difficult to access in the forest and can only be reached via hiking trails.
The dam was originally 110 m long and about 6 m high. In 1820 it showed internal damage of unknown cause, which was discovered by workers on September 28, 1820, but was not reported. On September 29, 1820 the dam broke with a loud bang, whereupon the backwater poured through a 20 m wide gap in the dam into the valley. There was no significant damage in the valley, but the destroyed dam was not repaired in the following period.
To this day, behind the listed ruins of the dam, a shallow body of water with a surface area of around 30 × 40 m has accumulated, which is of local importance as a wetland and is being preserved.
200 m up the valley is the 0.8 hectare Mittlere Einersberger Teich , above it the 4 hectare Obere Einersberger Teich .
