Pellworm sub-fire

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pellworm sub- light is a former beacon off the island of Pellworm . It consists of a gray and white painted lattice mast , which stands on a solid foundation secured by sheet pile walls and carries the lantern .

Location and description

The tower was the same with the rear range lighthouse Pellworm built in the years 1906-07 and served as a front light in combination with the rear light Pellworm as a leading light for the navigation of the waterways in Heverstrom . Both fires were electrically operated from the start. The original three-legged tower of the lower light was replaced in the 1930s by a four-legged successor, which also consisted of a lattice framework.

In August 2002 the upper light was converted into a pilot light . The lower fire lost its function and was extinguished. The non-functional about 1500 meters southwest of the upper fire in the Wadden Sea , about 17 meters high tower is today a landmark visible during the day and represents a widely recognizable navigation mark . The height of the fire was 14 meters and the range 20 nautical miles .
