Fall of the Namyoung-Ho

The sinking of the Namyoung-Ho was the worst shipping accident in the history of South Korea . It happened on December 15, 1970 at 1:25 a.m. on Korea Street . 304 people died and 12 were saved. Overloading, engine problems and the lack of a captain were given as causes.

The Namyoung-Ho was a ferry weighing 362 tons and carrying 140 tons of cargo . At the time of the accident, 338 people were on board, the trip went from Seogwipo on Jeju Island to the Seosangpo port near Busan . The ferry sank about 45 km from Yeosu .
