The Upper Sioux Indian Reservation ( Dakota : Pezihutazizi Kapi ) is an Indian reservation in Yellow Medicine County near Granite Falls in the State of Minnesota , the members of the Sioux Indian Community Upper (Dakota Pezihutazizi Oyate inhabited).

Originally established under the Treaty of Traverse des Sioux in 1851 , the reserve consisted of a 70 mile and 20 mile wide strip on either side of the Minnesota River . It was called the Upper Sioux Agency or the Yellow Medicine Agency . In 1858 the reservation was reduced in size due to another treaty signed in Washington. The residents gave up the areas north of Minnesota. In 1862 the reservation was dissolved after the Sioux Uprising after the treaty was unilaterally terminated by the United States. This happened even though the residents were not involved in the uprising: The uprising broke out in the Lower Sioux Agency downstream. Due to the Indian Reorganization Act 1938, the reservation was re-established with an area of originally 746 acres (3 km²). As a result of acquisitions, the area is now 1,440 acres (5.8 km²).

In the 1950s, the reservation was to be dissolved again by the termination policy. The attempt failed. Of the 480 registered members of the tribe, around 60 live in the reservation. Today the tribe operates the Prairie's Edge Casino Resort on the reservation. The reserve is also known for its annual pow wow in August.
