Ur-Krostitzer is a beer brand from the town of Krostitz near Leipzig .

The trademark is the portrait of the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf , who is said to have passed the village of Krostitz on his way to Leipzig in 1632 during the Thirty Years War . According to legend, he had the local brewer bring him a refreshment drink here. As a thank you, the king is said to have presented the master brewer with a gold ring.

history

The brewing license dates back to 1534 and was awarded by Duke Georg von Sachsen to Hans Wahl on the manor in Crostitz. In 1738 brown beer was served and sold , in 1803 Doppelbier and Kovent (a thin beer made from the wort ) were also brewed. The brewery and malt house were completely rebuilt from 1867 to 1876, and further modernization took place in the years 1894 to 1899.

The sale of beer rose steadily and amounted to 90,352 hectoliters in 1899  ; at that time there were 200 employees in the brewery. In Leipzig, 84 restaurants and 110 beer shops bought “Crostitzer Lagerbier”, “Dunkel”, “After Bohemian Style” and, depending on the season, “Bock” or “Märzenbier”.

In 1904 the name Ur-Krostitzer was used for the first time.

After nationalization during the GDR era , the brewery became part of the Radeberger Gruppe KG Frankfurt / M. In 1990 , and since then there have been numerous new buildings, conversions and modernization measures.

Today the brewery produces black beer according to a recipe from an old brewery manual and a fine-dry Pilsner .

On the occasion of the 470th anniversary, the Ur-Krostitzer Jahresring has been donated since 2004 as a prize for committed amateur history researchers who deal with history in the regions of Saxony , Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia .

In 2006 the brewery had 112 employees who produced around 374,000 hectoliters of beer and supplied around 2,600 catering establishments.
