Urban Ahlin

Urban Christian Ahlin (born November 13, 1964 in Mariestad ) is a Swedish politician of the Swedish Social Democrats and was President of the Swedish Parliament from 2014 to 2018 . He has been a member of the Swedish Parliament since 1994 .

Life

Ahlin is a teacher. He studied in the teacher program at the University of Karlstad and later worked as a high school teacher for mathematics and physics at Högelidsskola in Mariestad . Ahlin was elected to the Reichstag in 1994 and became a member of the Foreign Policy Committee. He was an expert in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and for foreign policy issues in connection with cooperation in the Baltic Sea region.

Urban Ahlin has been Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee since the 2006 election. From 2002 to 2006 he was chairman there. He is a member of Utrikesnämnden , a committee for foreign policy issues between the government and the Reichstag, and part of the Swedish OSCE delegation. Until April 2015 he was a member of the social democratic party executive committee. He is the party's spokesman for foreign policy issues. Since 2005 he has been chairman of the Social Democrats in Skaraborg .

In 2012 he became secretary of the parliamentary group of the Social Democrats in the Reichstag.

Private

Ahlin is married to Jenni Ahlin (* 1969), who is the family and culture editor of the Mariestads-Tidningen newspaper.
