Urdhva Mukha Shvanasana

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Urdhva Mukha Shvanasana ( Sanskrit ऊर्ध्वमुखश्वानासन Urdhva mukha śvānāsana ; in German: dog looking up ) is a yoga exercise . The Sanskrit name is made up of the words Urdhva (ऊर्ध्व) (meaning: "upward"), mukha (मुख) (meaning: "face"), śvāna (श्वान) (meaning: "dog") and āsana (आसन) ( Meaning: "seat" or "posture"). It occurs in the so-called " sun salutation ", where it can be replaced by the Bhujangasana .

Physical execution

Urdhva Mukha Shvanasana

At first you lie on your stomach and slowly lift your head without bending it backwards. Then you start to bend the spine from top to bottom backwards. The hips leave the floor. In the final position, arms and legs are stretched out, arms vertical and legs parallel to the floor, the body rests on the hands and the legs touch the floor from the lower part of the thighs and further down.

aims

There is hardly any research into the effects of individual asanas on health. Based on their own experiences, some yoga teachers talk about the effects of the asanas on various organs. Accordingly, Urdhva Mukha Shvanasana is recommended for a stiff back, for strengthening the spine , maintaining good pelvic blood circulation, prophylaxis against lumbago and herniated discs and the elasticity of the lungs.
