Urgut is a provincial city in the Uzbek province of Samarkand at the foot of the Zeravshan Mountain Range . Urgut is located around 50 km southeast of the provincial capital Samarkand and around 20 km west of the Uzbek- Tajik border. The city of Urgut has (as of 2007) 48,308 inhabitants, the district of the same name , whose main town is Urgut, has 350,000.
Urgut is famous for the Chor-Chinor plane tree grove, which contains specimens that are over a thousand years old.
The largest bazaar in Uzbekistan is located in Urgut .
Urgutlik or Urguti represent a subgroup of the Uzbek ethnic group who trace their origins back to the city of Urgut. About half a million people count themselves among the Urgutlik, for whom the use of Tajik words is characteristic.
history
At the beginning of the 18th century, the Bukhara Khanate , to which the city belonged, weakened and the local rule of the Ming emirs became more visible.
