Uricosuric

Uricosuric are medications that the renal excretion of uric acid increase.

Active ingredients

Probenecid , benzbromarone or Isobromindion are uricosuric. Medicines containing the active ingredient sulfinpyrazone are not commercially available.

Mechanism of action

Uricosurics inhibit tubular uric acid reabsorption on the brush border membrane of the kidney tubules . The point of attack of the uricosurics is the uric acid anion exchange protein URAT1 .

Side effects

Side effects can be a crystallization of uric acid in the urine , an acute attack of gout at the start of therapy or gastrointestinal complaints.

indication

The medication intake is indicated for hyperuricemia without kidney involvement.

Contraindications

The drug is not allowed to be taken with disorders of kidney function . You are strongly warned against using it for kidney stones ( cave ).
