Urs Fischer (born May 2, 1973 in Zurich ) is a Swiss artist living in New York .

Fischer studied photography at the Zurich School of Design . He was awarded the Federal Prize for Fine Art in 1995 and 1999 . In 1997 he received a grant from the Kiefer Hablitzel Foundation .

Fischer's works have already been shown in numerous solo exhibitions, for example at the Kunsthaus Glarus 2000, the Kunsthaus Zürich , the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam , the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Whitney Biennial 2006. From June to August 2005, After Fischer had already lived in Berlin for several years, the Hamburger Bahnhof dedicated his first solo exhibition in the city to him and presented his work as part of the Friedrich Christian Flick Collection . Fischer's work Thinking about Akbar , 2005, is in the Museo Cantonale d'Arte in Lugano .

In 2009 his first US solo exhibition opened at the New Museum in New York . The preparations for the exhibition are at the center of the Swiss documentary film Urs Fischer by Iwan Schumacher, which was released in 2010.
