The Museo Cantonale d'Arte was an art museum in Lugano and was responsible for the scientific processing of the art treasures of the Canton of Ticino . The museum opened in 1987 and merged with the city's Museo d'Arte to form the Museo d'arte della Svizzera italiana (MASI) in 2015.

The collections of the canton and the city are housed in the former city palace Palazzo Reali from the 15th century. This is located in the center of the city on Via Canova. After several years of renovation, it will reopen as a MASI location in December 2019.

collection

The focus of the canton's collection is on the 19th and 20th centuries. Most of the works come from collections in Ticino. The museum paid particular attention to the artists of Italian-speaking Switzerland. The collection is entered in the Swiss Inventory (KGS) as a “category A cultural asset of national importance”.
