Marcello Morandini

Marcello Morandini (born May 15, 1940 in Mantua ) is an Italian designer and architect.

The basis of his work is the preoccupation with geometric structures, which he transforms into new forms through movement and change.

life and work

In 1947 Morandini moved to Varese . He studied at the Brera Art Academy .

From 1957 to 1962 he worked as a designer in the industry and then as a graphic artist in an advertising agency in Milan . In 1962 he opened his own advertising agency in Varese. At the beginning he was artistically influenced by Enzo Mari . The first three-dimensional structures were created in 1964. In 1968 Morandini received an invitation to the XXXIV. Venice Biennale .

A first retrospective of his works took place in 1972 at the Kestnergesellschaft in Hanover - the beginning of a fruitful collaboration with German museums, galleries and industrial companies, in particular with the Rosenthal company in Selb . In 1977 he took part in documenta 6 . Since the beginning of the 1980s there has been a collaboration with the architectural offices Miraglia in Varese and Ong & Ong in Singapore . Important designs in the field of architecture and urban planning were created. In 1993, a retrospective took place in the Neue Sammlung in Munich , in which both artistic and design works by Morandini were shown. In 2001 he founded the "Centro editoriale di design Marienza".

Morandini taught at the Varese Art School for a number of years. From 1995 to 1997 he was a lecturer in art and design at the Summer Academy in Salzburg and at the Summer Academy in Plauen . Since 1997 he has been a lecturer in design at the Cantonal School of Lausanne and director of the International Ceramic Design Museum in Cerro, Laveno .

Exhibitions

Since 1964 Morandini has shown his work in many solo exhibitions in international galleries, in cultural centers, universities, museums, design centers, at biennials and art historical themed shows. His artistic works as well as his design objects are now part of the permanent collections of numerous museums.

Awards

In 2004 Morandini received the title “Honorary Royal Designer for Industry” (HonRDI) from the Royal Society of Arts in London .
