Urs Graf (filmmaker)

Urs Graf (* 1940 in Olten ) is a Swiss filmmaker .

Life

After training as a graphic artist-lithographer, Graf initially worked in graphics and industrial design from 1961. From 1967 to 1971 he worked at Turnus-Film AG (screenplay, direction, animation, editing) and made his first films.

From 1975 Graf was a member of the Zurich Film Collective, which he co-founded and was part of it until its dissolution in 2018. From 1983 to 2005 he lectured on film theory and practice at the ETH Zurich .

Graf was also involved in various organizations and institutions in the film industry, for example as a board member of the Swiss Film Center (1984–94), as the initiator and organizer of the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft Dokumentarfilm” of the Association of Swiss Film Designers VSFG (1990–98) or as a member of the Focal Foundation (Foundation for further training in film and audiovisual, from 1996).
