Ursula Schmenger

Ursula Schmenger (born April 13, 1927 in Alterode , Saxony-Anhalt ) is a German director and screenwriter .

Life

Schmenger passed her Abitur in 1945 and initially worked as a kindergarten teacher. After attending an interpreting seminar, she worked as a Russian interpreter from 1947. In 1956 she came to East Germany as a director's assistant . Later she studied theater studies in Berlin.

She was in charge of the series Basar on television , was the director for Meister Nadelöhr from 1956 to 1961 , and then she was responsible for the Russian television language course for you . She later made several fairy tale films. In 1990, the critics said that she was “one of the most experienced directors of children's television” in the GDR.

Her husband Fritz Schmenger was head of the main children's television department at GDR television.
