Ursula Straumann (born January 7, 1944 in Cairo ) is a Swiss psychologist.

From 1978 to 2009 she taught and researched as a professor at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences and made a significant contribution to the professionalization and development of quality standards in consulting. Among other things, she implemented a scientifically sound consulting training with an internationally recognized academic degree ( Master of Arts ).

Life

After the death of their father, the family moved from Egypt back to Switzerland in 1960. In 1968 she married the Basel economist Peter Straumann (died 1980) and moved with him to Germany. Since 1986 she has lived in Frankfurt in partnership with her colleague Friedrich Barabas .

career

Based on her pedagogically oriented school leaving certificate in Switzerland and after two years of practical experience as a primary school teacher in a home for children with behavioral problems from lower-class families, Ursula Straumann studied applied psychology in Zurich ; She graduated in 1968 with a specialization in psychological diagnostics and counseling .

She began her academic career at the then new Reform University in Regensburg . From 1968 to 1973 she worked there as a research assistant at the Chair of Applied Psychology and taught psychological diagnostics and socialization theories. She was also a part-time supervisor in children's homes.

In 1973 Ursula Straumann moved to Marburg and initially worked as a community worker in a social hotspot . At the same time, she studied social pedagogy and social work at the Department of Education in Marburg and dealt theoretically and practically in research projects with specific problems and conflicts in socially disadvantaged areas. She became a co-founder of the State Working Group on Social Hotspots, Hesse.

consultation

Straumann developed a humanistic, scientific, person-centered consulting approach based on the Person Centered Approach of Carl Rogers and his colleagues as well as the Differential Incongruence Model (DIM) developed by Gert-Walter Speierer . The concept is based on differential diagnostics and aims to establish self-confidence, self-confidence and self-management of individuals and groups as well as the functionality of organizations and companies.

Teaching and Research

In teaching and research, Straumann focused on communication, advice, mediation, conflict management and crisis intervention. Under her leadership, an interdisciplinary research committee developed standards for the professionalization of consulting as well as for the scientific foundation of an internationally recognized education with the academic degree Master of Arts . This master’s degree opens up the right to award doctorates and thus the possibility of further professionalization. This led to the development of interdisciplinary advanced courses and, from 2000, the interdisciplinary master's courses “Consulting and Social Law” and “Consulting in the Working World - Coaching, Supervision and Organizational Consulting”.

In 2005 she received the innovation award from the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences for outstanding achievements in research and teaching .

Memberships and foundations

Straumann has been a member of the Society for Scientific Discussion Psychotherapy and Counseling (GwG) since 1976 , where she was on the scientific advisory board between 1986 and 2010 and helped shape its work. Since 1995 she has been a member and supervisor of the German Society for Supervision (DGSv) and a member of the Friends of the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. Together with specialist colleagues, she founded the German Society for Advice (DGfB) in 2004 and the Association of University Lecturers for the Promotion of Counseling in Research and Teaching (VHBC).

In 2015, Ursula Straumann, together with other humanistic consultants, initiated the Association Humanistic Management Consulting (HUB). The aim of the association is to promote the acceptance of humanistic management consulting and organizational development.
