Uschi Heusel (* 1956 in Dietzenbach , Hessen ) is a German caricaturist , cartoonist , painter , illustrator and author .

life and work

Uschi Heusel has lived in Dietzenbach since she was born. After secondary school she completed an apprenticeship as an office clerk and worked in her apprenticeship until 1993.

She always painted and drew autodidactically , except for a one-year correspondence course in painting and drawing in 1985. Uschi Heusel has been working as a freelance artist since 1994. She illustrated numerous children's, non-fiction and school books. In addition, cartoon volumes, book covers, tin figure motifs, board and card games, postcard motifs and much more were created. Uschi Heusel became known through the cartoons of the mostly Hessian-speaking "Rat Ludwig", which has been published weekly in the Offenbach-Post daily since 1998 .

Rats became her trademark, but she also treats pigs and other animals with humor. In 2002 Uschi Heusel designed her first rat painting based on inspiration from a visit to the "Villa Ludwigshöhe" (summer residence of King Ludwig I / Palatinate). Since then, countless bizarre rat works in the style of old masters have been created, each of which Uschi Heusel provides with small subtexts and exhibited for the first time in 2002.

An exhibition at the Salon international de la Caricature in Saint-Just-le-Martel in France in 2012 earned Heusel the Prix de'l humor tendre, which she recognized for her delicate humor.

Since 2013 Heusel's rat paintings have also been known under the name Museum of modern Rat , which can be traced back to an idea by her colleague Klaus Puth .

A bronze sculpture created by Uschi Heusel in 2016 of her human-sized comic figure, the rat Ludwig , who sits laughing on a Steinberg in the Steinberg district and is called "Steinberg-Kreisel" in Dietzenbach ("N 50 ° 01.367 E 008 ° 46.994" ), the rat made Ludwig famous beyond the borders of Germany.

In March / April 2018, Heusel exhibited her works for the first time outside of Europe in the Chinese provincial capital of Yunnan, Kunming, in the Liuyun Pavilion.
