Uthukkottai ( Tamil : ஊத்துக்கோட்டை Ūttukkōṭṭai [ ˈut̪ːɯˌkːoːʈːɛi̯ ]; also Uthukottai ) is a city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu with almost 13,000 inhabitants (2011 census).

Uthukkottai is located almost 60 kilometers northwest of Chennai (Madras) and 70 kilometers southeast of Tirupati in the Tiruvallur district, right on the border with the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh . The city is the capital of the talk Uthukkottai . The Arani Nadi River flows through Uthukkottai . In addition, the canal that connects the Kandaleru Reservoir in Andhra Pradesh with the Poondi Lake in Tamil Nadu and thus supplies Chennai with drinking water from the Krishna River crosses the state border .

Only two kilometers west of Uthukkottai, but across the border with Andhra Pradesh, in the village of Suruttapalli is the Pallikondeswarar temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva . It has the peculiarity that the god is shown here in a lying position - a highly unusual representation for Shiva that is otherwise to be found in Vishnu .
