Uto from Kyburg
Uto von Kyburg also Utto (* Kyburg Castle ; † September 24, 1108 in St. Blasien ) was abbot in the monastery of St. Blasien in the southern Black Forest from 1086 to 1108 . He came from the noble family of Kyburg and is a blessed man .
Under Abbot Uto, the first fundamental new construction of the St. Blasien Monastery was started with a document dated September 11, 1094. At the same time, on the instructions of Pope Urban II and Bishop Ulrich I of Passau, he sent prior Hartmann to Göttweig to convert the local canon monastery into a Benedictine monastery. Around 1090 he also sent monks to the newly founded Ochsenhausen monastery . He endowed the Alpirsbach monastery with freedom.
